Dr. Valerie Kickhoefer is a molecular biologist and biochemist involved in research at the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her undergraduate degree (B.S. in Microbiology) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and graduate degree (Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) from Louisiana State University Medical Center.

She joined the Rome laboratory as a postdoctoral fellow where she began her studies initially centering on the vault RNA. More recently as a research scientist in the lab she has focused on identifying the high molecular weight vault proteins, TEP1 and VPARP. She is continuing her studies on the activities of these intriguing proteins with the ultimate goal of understanding vault function.
