Amara Siva, Ph.D. Amara earned her Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of California, San Diego in 1994. That same year she entered the Biological Chemistry department at UCLA through the ACCESS program, and found a home in the Rome Lab. Her thesis research included an examination of the nature of vault-mediated drug resistance in cancer cells and the localization of VPARP to the mitotic spindle and the nucleolus. She finished graduate school here at UCLA (June 2000), and in December 2000 she moved to a postdoc position in Dr. Rick Bushman's lab at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, where she shifted her studies to viruses. She is currently a staff scientist at Alexion Antibody Technologies, Inc. in San Diego, CA.
