TRAINING & MODEL PROGRAMS

UCLA Med-Peds

The UCLA Combined Residency Program in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics (Med-Peds) trains physicians who are both Pediatricians and Internists. Med-Peds physicians have a unique perspective on the care of patients throughout the life span. The multi-generational approach to the patient and family affords insight into not only the comprehensive medical care of the patient but the important context of family and community systems. Our graduates go on to practice primary care, enter competitive sub-specialty fellowship positions, or stay on as faculty in an academic setting with research interests in public health, health services research, medical education, or the basic sciences.

The UCLA Med-Peds Program produces physicians with flexibility in their approach to clinical medicine, which provides a breadth of patient care approaches as well as versatility in career paths. These areas include generalists, hospitalists, sub-specialists, researchers, and specialists in public health, administration, and education. Med-Peds physicians may also occupy special niches within the medical community, such as the transitional care of patients with chronic illnesses like cystic fibrosis, diabetes, and congenital heart disease.
