Hope Street Family Center

Hope Street Family Center was established in 1992 as a community program of California Hospital Medical Center. Original program funding was provided by a research and demonstration grant from the federal Head Start Bureau as a national effort to develop more effective ways to support young children and families. The Center partnered with the Hope Street Family Center to employ an ecological approach to service delivery that focuses on both the child and family and social environment. Hope Street Family Center is reminiscent of a turn-of-the-century settlement house. It provides a continuum of on-site educational, medical, and developmental services that guide and support children and families from birth through adulthood.

Hope Street Family Center promotes the health and welfare of children and their families through a variety of co-located federal, state, private and locally funded initiatives. These initiatives include early childhood education, school readiness, family literacy, behavioral health, primary health care, after school and academic enrichment, and other family support programs. On an annual basis, the Hope Street Family Center serves over 2,000 low-income children and families

The mission of Hope Street Family Center is to:

• Enhance the capacity of parents and families to nurture and care for their children
• Promote children's overall health, development, school readiness and academic achievement
• Strengthen existing service delivery networks and foster community partnerships
• Develop services that are accessible and responsive to the community we serve
